The Northern Irish are a funny lot, not entirely British, not entirely Irish. We are a law onto ourselves, with a history of violence, a past full of conflict and sectarian hatred. We are a mixed up, confused half nation of 1.6 million people looking for our future and contending with our past. Such a creative people with a dour accent and strong work ethic. We are unique and proud of it. And we are insecure about it.
